Memory Quilt "Star Memory Quilt"
Honoring, Celebrating, Sharing

This honoree's Memory Quilt square is sponsored by Blank Quilting, who joins The Alliance for American Quilts efforts to preserve the stories of quiltmakers for generations to come. Blank Quilting's Inspiration Guild project is a coming together of dedicated quilters to offer their talent and craft in the fight against ovarian cancer. Every quilt created by the Inspiration Guild bears the name of someone touched by ovarian cancer: a caregiver, victim, a survivor, a fighter.

In memory of Marlene Picha
Marlene Picha was a quilter and a dedicated member of the quilting community. In her position at Responsive Marketing, Marlene worked personally with a fabric client and was able to combine her love of quilting with business. She helped market textiles while creating her own quilts and becoming enthusiastically involved with the quilting community at the same time. In 1998, Marlene was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She volunteered to be a part of an ovarian cancer research program to help researchers learn more about the disease.
Even while she was sick, she continued to live and breathe quilting. Her legacy lives on in the quilts she made for her family. Her dedication to the industry and her valiant battle with ovarian cancer made her the inspiration for the Inspiration Guild program. And so, the first quilt completed was named the Marlene Picha Quilt.
