Memory Quilt "Star Memory Quilt"
Honoring, Celebrating, Sharing

This honoree's Memory Quilt square is sponsored by Blank Quilting, who joins The Alliance for American Quilts efforts to preserve the stories of quiltmakers for generations to come. Blank Quilting's Inspiration Guild project is a coming together of dedicated quilters to offer their talent and craft in the fight against ovarian cancer. Every quilt created by the Inspiration Guild bears the name of someone touched by ovarian cancer: a caregiver, victim, a survivor, a fighter.

In memory of Melanie Normann
The founder of the State Quilt Guild of NJ, Inc.; Threadmakers Quilt Studios, which sponsored weekend getaways in Lancaster, PA; the now annual NJ Quilt Convention; and visionary for a future NJ Quilt Museum; departed this life on February 3, 2005 after a long, courageous battle against cancer.
Born in East Orange, and resident of Howell for the past 23 years, Melanie is survived by her loving husband, Bruce; daughter Caitlyn; son Bradford Brandon; mother Geraldine Simpson; brothers, Drew, Leigh, Shawn, & Timothy; and hundreds of inspired, enlightened students, dedicated friends, and loving supporters whose lives she touched.
Melanie was an amazingly talented and beautiful quilt maker who excelled in teaching quilt making, as well as any other task she set her mind to. Those who worked with her were impressed by her talent, determination, and conviction, but mostly her strength. She will be greatly missed, yet she always insisted that her "going away" be a happy gathering of family and friends who will celebrate her life by continuing her life's works, rather than mourning her passing.
